Matthew Richard is a trial and appellate litigation attorney at Gavrilov & Brooks who represents businesses, shareholders, and professionals in complex, high-stakes disputes. His practice focuses on commercial litigation matters involving partnership and shareholder disputes, judicial dissolution actions, trade secret misappropriation, employment claims, and other complex business conflicts. While he focuses on commercial litigation, Matthew has experience guiding clients through insurance disputes, contract issues, and a wide range of business issues to meet his clients’ needs.

Matthew has served as first chair in both jury and bench trials and regularly manages cases through every stage of litigation—from early case strategy through dispositive motions, trial, and appeal. He has extensive experience litigating in both federal and state courts and has prepared and argued numerous critical motions, including summary judgment motions, injunctions, demurrers, and discovery disputes.

Matthew earned his J.D., with Great Distinction, from the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law, graduating in the top 10 percent of his class and earning election to the Order of the Coif. During law school, he received both a merit scholarship for academic excellence in business law and a service scholarship recognizing his commitment to community service. He also served as a Judicial Extern for the United States District Court for the District of Nevada and competed on McGeorge’s moot court team.

Matthew has been recognized as a Northern California Super Lawyers® Rising Star from 2024 through 2026.

In his free time, Matthew enjoys playing golf, snowboarding, or volunteering at local charity events.
